The temperance movement began in Preston in 1835 during the period of the Industrial Revolution and was a response to the widespread alcoholism at the time.  By the 1890’s temperance bars graced every high street, the most prominent being Mr Fitzpatrick’s, a successful family of Dublin herbalist who settled in the North of England.  After the World War II Mr Fitzpatrick settled in the Rossendale Valley, of which still resides one of the original temperance bars.  It continues to be run as a family business that bursts with history and passion.  Our temperance bar keeps to the Fitzpatrick’s traditions using the old recipes alongside newly created flavours.
